Okay, Ready to Finish This Puppy

After an unusually hot weekend that included toenails painted fresh for the season, my favorite sandals, and Australian Chardonnay served at an outdoor wine bar, I’m ready to kick myself into high gear: Finish this first draft!

You may recall from this post that I was stymied. After taking a break, reading the printed manuscript (hard copy seems to help), and completing initial revisions, I think, I hope, I pray, that I’m un-stymied.

So, with coffee rather than vino, I’m off!

  • Ooh! Caught me. I’m working late, got a wine in my hand, one of those hard, chewy red zins that makes your teeth feel serrated — and will probably make my writing look serrated, too, in the morning. Tough *&$%, I guess, because I like the wine.

Hey, by the way, I’m suddenly up to my lips in a serious writing funk, and that almost never happens to me. I actually worked until 10:30 last night. (Yes, I know. You can pick yourself up off the floor now.) So how about next week for a writing and tonic? Is that okay? I’ll call.

  • Interesting how quickly we can move from writing flow to writing funk, isn’t it? I ARGH on your behalf!

    Next week sounds great.

(And, by the way, your description of the red zin has me wanting some too…)

  • Funny. You must have thought I was being either sarcastic or incredibly snobbish when I wrote that writing funks never happen to me. Actually, it seems that you and I use ‘funk’ to refer to exactly opposite states of mind. I mean that I’m in one of those fleeting states of deep concentration, one in which I hope and pray that my mother doesn’t come by for an unexpected visit, no one complains to me about anything, etc. Thus the ‘funk’.

  • Oooooh, I get it now. Have to admit that your comment didn’t make complete sense — didn’t think you were snobbish though! Read the word “funk” and interpreted it my way: not so positive.

So then, I change my message from ARGH to YOU GO, GUY!
