Bummed Versus Philosophical

Bummed Lisa: Dal-burned rain, go away!

raingloomymood1

This is the Lisa who yesterday:

~ Pulled a Debbie Downer on three hapless people (fellow dogwalker, barista, deli chef), telling them my tale of woe. (They were sympathetic, which did help.)

~ Didn’t ingest anything until 3:00 p.m. and then ordered Starbucks’ most decadent holiday mocha (I don’t even like Starbucks) and the most decadent sandwich at the nearby gourmet deli.

~ Sat in the car staring off into space for so long the dog curled up and fell asleep.

~ Watched television all night (“Ghost Whisper,” “The Mentalist,” and “The Starter Wife”).

VERSUS

Philosophical Lisa: See pretty lights; I like pretty lights.

This is the Lisa who yesterday:

~ Went on a 90-minute dogwalk and condoled with a woman who’d recently lost her husband to Lou Gehrig’s Disease (using Oregon’s Death With Dignity Act).

~ Found herself thinking (and believing) things like: This is for the best and there’s a better agent out there for me. All will be well.

~ Who felt a mental eff-you finger toward obstacles in general: Oh, yeah, well take that!

  • GREAT pictures? Such storytelling pictures!!!! My fave.
(I can’t belive you have the Xmas lights up, though).

As for the whole agent thing, I hear you and feel deeply (angry?) for you. The publishing world is so bizarrely stuck in how it works to get a book published, it’s so layered, but there it is, that’s how it’s done, dammit.
Cuz I’m sure you have a book on your hands that we all want to read. (a gut feeling). It should just be there, on the shelf for us to buy, by next Christmas (I’m patient, ‘specially in terms of books I want to read.)
So, in the meantime? Recoup from this terrible agent-flew-the-camp revelation? Yes.
And think about small presses? indie presses? You may actually score big now with this agent who may take over your book from little-miss-I-can’t-be bothered.
    Good luck.
Of course you’re still writing more and more.
Oh, I’d love to be an agent, book editor, publisher…

  • Thanks so much, oh. I appreciate that gut feeling of yours! We keep on trucking.

Travis, you know, I have cinched my belt (mostly!). I’ve heard so many crappy-agent stories that I have to just take it as part of the equation…Thanks for dropping in!
